Celebrating 15 great years in web design and marketing

The web was a simple place back in 2004.

It was the year that Facebook started, now with 2.32 billion monthly active users. It was also the year Bluetooth tech, Gmail, Yelp!, GrubHub, World of Warcraft, and a small web design and development company named TBH Creative came to life.

As TBH Creative celebrates its 15th year in business, we want to pause and thank all of our amazing clients for helping us be one of the 10% of startups that succeed—that includes many who have been with us since the first couple years to some of the new clients in the last year and everyone in between.

Without our clients, TBH Creative wouldn’t have been able to grow as much as we have, and we’re grateful for all of our opportunities to use our web marketing skills to produce results-driven creative work.

Q&A

For an insider look into the company's past, present, and future, president and founder Tatum B. Hindman shares a few behind-the-scenes things you might not know about our company.

What inspired you to start TBH Creative in 2004?

I had always done freelance work to pay bills through college so that made getting started easier. After two years of working for other companies, I decided to finish my Masters of Technology degree in one semester (instead of part-time across two years) and continue freelancing.

By the time I finished my degree, TBH Creative was going strong. I was (and still am) inspired by the work opportunities, the challenges, and the clients.

Describe TBH Creative today in one word.

I would pick “creative” since it is part of everything we do and part of our name.

Here some additional words I would use to describe the TBH Creative team: creative, strategic, technical, experienced, dedicated, reliable, dedicated, friendly, focused, smart, and organized.

What are some of TBH Creative’s greatest successes?

Our greatest successes are for our clients and the results we help them achieve. There is nothing more rewarding than completing a project and tracking/measuring direct results back to ROI.

As a close second, our business success is 100% the result of the marketing work we have created for ourselves and referrals from past, satisfied clients.

Every year in business TBH Creative has grown its client-base, service offerings, and revenue, and our team is always expanding its skillset. All the while, we continue to serve many clients who have trusted us since our first few years in business.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced during the first 15 years?

Each new client also brings new challenges in different ways. Spending the time upfront to learn the ins-and-outs of what will help a client reach their goals makes it easier to recommend strategic and thoughtful solutions. It’s always a big and exciting challenge.

As a team, we enjoy “digging in” to get to know the client and their audiences in order to produce the most successful website or marketing campaigns.

Other challenges are pretty common, such as managing client expectations, helping clients understand the technical elements within a project, and keeping the integrity of work after “launch.”

If someone is hesitant to go forward with a website redesign, what do you wish they knew?

Plain and simple: I wish they knew the value and ROI potential of a strategic and high-quality website.

Our most successful clients already realized the value of their website when they came to us, and they were willing (and excited) to put in the legwork and invest. We struggle to be successful with clients who do not realize how much power their website holds or customers looking for a quick or lowest-cost solution.

If you had a chance to go back, would you change anything?

It would be great to go back and give myself an idea of how things would turn out or pay off, but everyone wants that! There have been moments of uncertainty where having that insight would have been nice—is this all worth it? will I succeed? will this client choose us? will this idea work? should I say no?

All in all, I wouldn’t change things. Ultimately, some of my hardest decisions or lost projects have been the best learning experiences.

What’s on the horizon for TBH Creative?

The main objective for TBH Creative in the next three years is to continue to build our portfolio of client success stories and to continue to learn and strive to be the best in our field.
