Creativity in my spare time

I think of myself as a creative web site designer, as well as a creative thinker in general. Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved doing crafts, drawing, coloring, creating things, etc. Since starting TBH Creative and DoorFly.com, my available free-time for activities like this have been limited. Everyone in my family is crafty too including my mom (jewelry maker), my sister (card maker, graphic designer, and working on a new craft every week), and even my sister-in-law who likes to hang out with my crafty sister and mom and read craft blogs regularly. My dad is crafty (or should I say handy?) too at "man crafts" like building things (bird houses, decks, fences, you name it and he can build it).

Anyway, I am throwing a baby shower for my friend (JoDee) next weekend and decided to put my creative skills to work and make a diaper cake to be the table center piece and fill it with gifts too.

Here's how it turned out:

The cake has so many fun things inside including 150 diapers (seriously, I used more than 150 and rolled them tight -- the cake is huge!), music elephant doll, kids bath sponge, 4 burp clothes, 4 bibs, 3 onesies, a bath-time book, teething ring, 2 pacifiers, and soft blanket.

I figured out how to create this cake by looking online for advice/steps and trying a few things of my own. I read online to use a wooden dowel rod, but I ended up using the blanket to tie the layers together and this worked much better. I rolled the bibs, onesies, and other items inside the diapers. I used size 2 diapers on the bottom and size 1 on the top.

If you don't want to make one yourself, you can buy them too from Babee Cakes or Etsy's Bouncin' Baby Cakes or Mama bebe Co.
